All earthly desires are but streams, but God is the ocean.

Jonathan Edwards
About This Quote

The Bible teaches that everything we do, every weakness and every defect that we have, is a “stream” of sin. If there were no streams of sin flowing in our lives, if we had no weaknesses and defects, then the whole world would be in danger—humans would be in danger of hell, and animals would be in danger of everlasting burning. But God has provided an antidote to sin—he has provided Jesus Christ, who lives in us and is our Savior. When we recognize our sinful condition, when we recognize the power of sin to lead us away from God, when we realize how completely dependent we are on Jesus Christ for our salvation.

We humbly ask him to forgive us for our sins against him. God’s answer to our plea is mercy and grace. When we admit that we are sinners before him, he says, “I am sorry you are in this condition.

I will forgive you for your sins against me. I will take you into my family and love you with an everlasting love. You will never again be separated from me.

I will be your Savior and you will be my child forever” (2 Corinthians 5:18).
